TOROTÖRÖ
Workgroup & Kaaos Company (2023)
"Torotörö is a doubly melty sensation on the tongue.
A liquid language that seeps across skins and oozes in the gaps."
Inspired by the Japanese words toro (とろ) and torotoro (とろとろ), which evoke sensory melting and syrupy textures, Torotörö plays with the overlaps between sound, language, and meaning. Its name evokes bull and fish Torotörö embodies multiplicity: bringing together animality, fluidity, and transformation.
Torotörö refuses normative expectations of masculinity and the idea that bodies and identities are fixed.
Disability, gender, physical limits and assumed roles continually shift as the performers dance relationally.
Through vigour and surprising tenderness, Kadar and Jussi create intense connections.
They tinker, rest, risk and play with touch and improvisation techniques inside a task-based choreography.
Wild animals emerge and dissolve as we are drawn into intimate encounters of sublime listening and trust.
Brotherhood and Otherhood emerge as new mythologies in the suspended stillness of a liminal moment.
Their gleaming gaze charges the blue air: like bull, like fish, like love.
